Can I KIK it...yes you can! #instadating day two

Everyday I learn something new...yesterday I learnd what "KIK" is...and no (for my Germans around here), not the cheap store...it is actually an instant messaging app very popular amonst instagramers.

So, while I was exploring the various hashtags looking for potential "dates" I started thinking : how do I actually approach them? Do I comment on their pic "Hey you want to meet up for a coffee?" Maybe a good idea if the picture is the person actually drinking a coffee...but if its a puppy or some random image, then it might seem weird.

I stumbled across "KIK" via looking at different profiles and saw everywhere "you got KIK", "KIK me" etc...I had no idea what they were talking about, and even though I consider myself as an internet veteran, it did not ring a bell. All it did is leave me with ATCQ´s hit "Can I kick it" stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Nevertheless I had to try it our of course. Logging in is extremely easy and then there it was...the first message. "Hi, my name is...., so whats all this about? You want to go on various dates?" - "Yeah, I see it as a new way of meeting interesting ppl. You want to meet up sometime, for a coffee or so?" - "No thank you.". Hm, I guess that did not go that well. But at least it was a first little step.

I spoke to a friend of mine who is a big fan of grindr, the probably most common gay hook up app, and told him about my experiment. He said, instagram is becoming more and more a hook up page..the only difference is that it is more "discreet". You start with some liking of pics, first comments, complementing, flirting and then via KIK or similar apps start "business". Its a more "moral" version of grindr.

Moral or not..either way, the first "date" did not work out. Apparently she was just curious and thats about it. Maybe she did not like the fact that I saw it as an experiment...I guess I should take a different, less IT more desperately romantic approach.

This morning I talked to another friend of mine about my little "cyber space adventure". We were talking what would be the best way to find someone close to you. It is basically scanning for hashtags that are either locations or areas nearby. So for example, there is this famous Beach Club around the corner from me..I could simply check out who hashtagged it within the last couple minutes...look at their pics, look for them at the actual place and start talking to them. I know..it sounds creepy..but then again, its your own responsibility what you post on the internet..and if you post a sexy pic and tag your location..what do you expect?

But dont worry...thats not going to be my approach. I guess I ll do it the "classical" way as my other friend suggested...liking pics, complementing, flirting and so on. #instagentleman ....

Lets see how day two will end up and if I ll have more luck than yesterday...

#instadating - The experiment.

I have not posted anything in over two years...this does not mean that nothing interesting has happend during that time, en contraire, but I somehow did not have the time to update the page, was too lazy or simply forgot about it. Nevertheless, time to revive this dusty site to former "glory".

So, recently I stumbled upon different articles on the net regarding dating. Since I ve been out of the "dating" game for some years, (no I have not been in a relationship - I simply dont "date") I was curious to read what I missed out or what is going on.

Apparently a new "thing" is dating via instagram. I use instagram quite frequently and even though it came to my mind before that it is almost like a creepy dating site, looking through the pics of strangers and their lives, I never gave it a second thought. A friend of mine has been doing it since a while already and is telling me that it is an easy, fun and different way of meeting like minded people. For dates...or more.

Hello, my name is...you want to meet up?
I guess it is true. I mean, you look at a profile...see the life of someone through their own eyes and if it is something that you appreciate, enjoy, understand or would like to share. Of course, not every picture is "random" or "true"...in the end people often tend to post pictures that reflect a lifestyle they would like to have or would like others to think they have. Just look at Facebook. The difference between the pics one uploads him/herself or the ones being tagged in...

Love may be only one double tap away..

Anyhow..so, back to dating via instagram.

What is actually the difference between "chatting someone up" on instagram and in a bar? The difference is that via instagram we already see many of the interests the person have, different moods, friends, family, style and lifestyle. We can already filter. In the bar (or any "real life" scenario) we actually have to ask many questions to see if we dig the person or not before we can filter (not talking about the physical appearance). It is more work and in times where everybody is looking for the "next best thing" around the corner and is rather hesitant to committment, time is important. You dont want to go out and waste your entire time flirting with someone and in the end it is not worth the effort. Online, especially via instagram, you can filter before and actually do all that "work" with as many ppl as you wish at the same time. The chances that one wants to meet for a real date are higher and who knows what happens then...a double click on a picture seems easier than offering someone a drink in a bar...

So long story short...I decided to start this little experiment. Over the next four weeks I will push my "shyness" aside and work on my online flirting skills. I will try to get as many "instagram-dates" as possible and see what happens if two complete strangers that only know each other via different pics they post online, meet in real life. I will only contact people whose pics seem to resemble mine or whose are completely different..ah, what the hell...I ll contact everyone..and everyone can contact me. ;)

I will keep track of my various dates and write about them (no names mentioned etc...). You never know..maybe true love is just a "double tap" away (I know..extremely cheesy..).

In case you want to follow me in instagram, look for @evitoperez...and dont be shy...I know I wont be.

So lets get this thing started....

The Store...Part II

I was never interested in learning Spanish...I am more the "Italian" or "French" type of guy...
But I do not live in Italy or France any more, but Spain. Therefore I have no choice but learn the language....

So far I am doing good...even though my vocabulary is limited to ordering food, drinks and construction. I can tell you all kinds of things in Spanish around construction, but am terrible in small talk at a bar...

Some call it cute...others just get up and leave...

Nevertheless the construction is moving on very nicely and I guess end of May there will be the opening.

Here some pictures:

More than just a supermarket....

ToyME...ToyYou...ToyS4US!

A couple days ago I was in London to do some research for our store in Marbella. While walking around Brick Lane we came across a little stand with rings. They all looked very cool and of course I tried one on...maybe I should have waited and checked the size first, since once I put it on... I could not take it off anymore! Needless to say I was stuck with it and had to buy it...at least it looked nice and was not too expensive.

It was the first time that I bought myself some "jewelry" since years, and it felt weird at the beginning wearing a ring again...next to the fact that it was too small and cutting of the blood...my finger literally turned blue.

Nevertheless, with the help of some soap and water, my finger was finally released from the pain and pressure...

But now I am thinking of getting a new ring and somehow came across http://toyme.it. Next to rings, they have really cool necklaces, earings and cuff links.
